Research activity

 

 

Main research activity concerns experimental embryology approaches by the use of tamarillo (Cyphomandra betacea, syn. Solanum betaceum) as an embryogenic model system for somatic embryogenesis induction analysis in dicot plants.

Experience with breeding and micropropagation of forestry species (e.g. Pinus sp., Quercus sp., Arbutus unedo).

The research activity conducted includes:
-
in vitro plant culture techniques and development biology molecular assays with woody plants; - plant breeding tools (hybridization, protoplasts, molecular markers);
- germplasm conservation (
in vitro banks, cryopreservation);
- functional genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics approaches (qPCR, RNAseq, LC-MS);
- transient and stable genetic transformation, including shRNA gene silencing;

- analysis of mutants of the model species Arabidopsis thaliana.
