The conference Almada: 50 Years of City, 50 Years of Freedom is dedicated to celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of Almada's elevation to the city category. The transition from town to City was enshrined in the June 16, 1973 diploma, considering the great demographic and urban development, the existence of communication routes, public services and the economic, social and cultural dynamics that characterized Almada.

The April Revolution of 1974 occurred and, two years later, in December 1976, the first local elections were held in Almada.

50 years have passed. Almada underwent a profound transformation following the changes that marked the country, confirming a position of great importance among the main Portuguese cities.

The conference Almada: 50 years of City, 50 years of Freedom aims to promote the deepening of knowledge about the history of the City of Almada over the last 50 years, stimulate the historiographical renewal of local history in this geographical context, and provide a space for sharing and dialogue at a scientific level.

Registration to attend the Almada Congress: 50 Years of City, 50 Years of Freedom is free
