Living River Comics

Cristina Canhoto, Ana Lúcia Gonçalves and Aingeru Martínez, from the University of Coimbra (UC), created two comic strips (comics) to alert the school community and society to the need to care for and protect water courses.

With illustrations by André Caetano, the two comics, entitled “Grasping the Stream With a Litter Bag” and “Which Should I Eat?”, explain the procedures to be carried out in the field and in the laboratory, respectively, to assess the functional integrity of streams and the effects of anthropogenic activities on aquatic organisms.

The two comics are available in PDF format.

The Books that Make Us Grow

The Books that Make Us Grow project is an initiative promoted by the UNESCO Biodiversity and Conservation Chair for Sustainable Development at the University of Coimbra in collaboration with the Center for Functional Ecology. This initiative aims to raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Using a book for each Objective, 17 works were chosen as a strategy to learn about and reflect on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. For each book, an activity is proposed to be developed in the classroom, launching this challenge to all schools in the 1st cycle of Basic Education.
