Experiência

Lyudmyla Symochko is an ecologist and environmental microbiologist with extensive expertise in sustainable agriculture, and environmental health. She earned her M.Sc. in Ecology and Environmental Protection in 2000 and Ph.D. in Ecology (2005) from the Institute of Agroecology and Environmental Management of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences, Kyiv, Ukraine, and completed her habilitation in Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation at Uzhhorod National University. Currently, she is an Invited Professor and Researcher at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. Her research is centered on advancing sustainability and food security in agricultural systems through a One Health approach. She specialises in investigating the role of emerging contaminants in shaping the environmental microbiome and resistome, with particular emphasis on water and soil ecosystems within agroecological landscapes. Her work explores how these environments act as reservoirs and transmission pathways for antibiotic-resistant microorganisms, including ESKAPE pathogens. .She has authored over 200 scientific publications, including five books, and has delivered more than 90 presentations at national and international conferences, including keynote lectures. An active contributor to the global scientific community, she serves as a guest editor for several international journals, shaping research discourse on microbial ecology, antibiotic resistance, and environmental sustainability.
