Financing approval for the “Promoting the Cultural Value of Biodiversity and Sustainability in Coastal Marine Territories” project
The “Promoting the Cultural Value of Biodiversity and Sustainability in Coastal Marine Territories: valuing plural know-how through the Intercultural University of Peoples” ("Promovendo o valor Cultural da Biodiversidade e da Sustentabilidade em Territórios Marinhos Costeiros: valorizando os saberes-fazeres plurais através da Universidade Intercultural dos Povos") project, coordinated by CFE researcher, Fátima Alves, was approved for financing.
The “Promoting the Cultural Value of Biodiversity and Sustainability in Coastal Marine Territories: valuing plural know-how through the Intercultural University of Peoples” project, coordinated by Fátima Alves, a researcher from the Societies and Environmental Sustainability Group from CFE, was approved for financing by the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) through the Research in Biodiversity Program (PPBio).
This three-year project aims to promote biodiversity and sustainability, leaning on local knowledge (traditional and indigenous), and strengthening cultural diversity using interdisciplinary and participative approaches for conservation strategies and public participative measures development adequate for the specificities of those territories.
It is affiliated to “Rede Marangatu – Rede de Ciência Cidadã para Governança Territorial e Promoção de Políticas de Preservação e Valoriação da Sociobiodiversidade Costeira Marianha”, coordinated by Edmundo Gallo from the Observatório de Territórios Sustentáveis e Saudáveis da Bocaina – OTSS and the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. He is also a collaborator researcher at the above-mentioned research line from CFE.
Besides Coordinator Fátima Alves, CFE researchers Vanda Viegas, Paula Castro, Ana Mendonça, Rosário Rosa, Helena Freitas, Jorge Moreira, and Diogo Guedes Vidal are also involved in the project.
