This autumn, on November 11th, in Coimbra, we will celebrate funga* in the city, with an urban mycological expedition and the 1st meeting of the “Mushrooms in the City” community.
The event is organized by MyCoLAB of the Center for Functional Ecology at the University of Coimbra, with Sociedade Broteriana's financial support through the 2023 ideas competition.
*A term suggested to designate the diversity of fungi in a given location, habitat, or geological period, equivalent to the concepts of fauna and flora.
The event will include:
- In the morning (9:30- 12:00), an urban mycological expedition will take place in Santa Clara, Coimbra, to enjoy, record, and collect urban fungus.
- In the afternoon (14:00-16:00), the "Mushrooms in the City" community will hold its first meeting. The meeting will present the results achieved so far and listen to the community's expectations, contributing to the co-creation of the project's near future.
- In the afternoon, at 4:00 pm, a convivial snack, including chestnuts and jeropiga to mark S. Martinho!
MyCoLAB promotes the "Mushrooms in the City" project, which aims to map the diversity of mushrooms in the municipality of Coimbra. Operating since September 2020, it brings together all mushroom observations in the municipality recorded with the iNaturalist app.
