The UNESCO Chairs and Biosphere Reserves: People and Nature Colloquium will begin the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the UNESCO Chair on Biodiversity Safeguard for Sustainable Development.

The UNESCO Chairs and Biosphere Reserves: People and Nature Colloquium will begin the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the UNESCO Chair on Biodiversity Safeguard for Sustainable Development, officially attributed to the University of Coimbra on October 17, 2013, and with a public presentation and beginning of activities on February 14, 2014.

This meeting will be held on the morning of October 16 in the Auditorium of the Department of Life Sciences – Colégio de S. Bento and will feature the participation of two distinguished guests: Prof. Doctor Hiroyuki Matsuda, holder of the UNESCO Chair on Education in Biosphere Reserves for Sustainable Development – ​​National University of Yokohama, Japan, and Doctor Miguel Clüsener-Godt, who until 2021 was the Director of UNESCO's Earth and Ecological Sciences Division and Secretary of the MaB Program. In this first moment, the importance of the UNESCO Chairs program and UNESCO's Man and Biosphere program in fulfilling the "30x30" commitment, a global initiative to classify 30% of the Earth's land and marine surface as protected areas by 2030, will be highlighted.
