The First Congress on Contemporary Archaeology in Portugal, a significant event in the field, will take place in Lisbon. It will be held in a hybrid format at the College of Social Sciences and Humanities of the NOVA University of Lisbon. History, Territories, and Communities – CFE and the National Museum of Archaeology.

The scope of this congress is necessarily broad. Contemporary Archaeology encompasses research conducted over approximately the last 200 years. However, this is a very recent area in Portugal, and archaeologists have only recently begun to discuss these topics, although findings from domestic, industrial, rural, and urban contexts, on land or at sea, are frequent.

Researchers at all stages of their careers are welcome, whether academics, students, commercial or municipal archaeologists, working alone, collectively, or with the community.

We welcome all researchers who wish to present their work in contemporary archaeology. The aim is a collective discussion of how the archaeology of a recent past is fundamental to developing themes that translate into social, environmental, economic, and political challenges.

Presentations will be 15/20 minutes long and organized by theme/sessions by the organization. Although in-person presentations are encouraged, remote Zoom presentations are also possible.

To submit a proposal, please provide an abstract of up to 150 words along with the title, authors, affiliation, and email of all involved. The deadline for submissions is August 15, 2024. Please send proposals to CongressoCont24@gmail.com.
