Research Groups

Biodiversity, Conservation and Natural Capital

The Biodiversity, Conservation and Natural Capital research group seeks to develop knowledge and critical understanding of different biodiversity patterns, from individual organisms to an integrated vision of conserving and valorising endogenous genetic resources, promoting a more sustainable territory. The group has three research lines.

Terrestrial Ecosystems and Global Change

The Terrestrial Ecosystems and Global Change research group is focused on the diversity and functioning of terrestrial ecosystems and their responses to drivers of Global Change. The group has five research lines, organized in research labs.

Marine Resources, Conservation and Technology

The Marine Resources, Conservation and Technology Group promotes interdisciplinary research linking climate change, anthropogenic impacts on marine organisms, environmental and human safety, as well as developing sustainable seafood production combining cutting-edge approaches to aquaculture, nutrition, and marine biotechnology. The group has two research lines.

Soil Health

Recognising soil not only as a substrate but as a dynamic biological entity, the Soil Health research group focuses on decoding the myriad interactions, processes, and mechanisms that make up the multiple facets of soil health.

Societies and Environmental Sustainability

The Research Group on Societies and Environmental Sustainability primarily aims to contribute to a comprehensive and interdisciplinary perspective on the relationships between Society and Nature in their material and discursive expressions, transcending both academic and non-academic epistemic boundaries.

History, Territories, Communities

Its main focus is history, in its intrinsic relationship with territories and communities. It comprises the breadth of essential interconnections between social sciences, humanities, and other disciplinary areas raised by contemporary societal challenges in interaction with the complexity of the global commitment to sustainability.

One Health

The One Health Research Group (ONE) focuses on the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health, embracing the principles of the One Health concept. Our primary goal is to conduct research that explores the intricate connections between the environment and health.

Forensic Anthropology and Paleobiology

The research group Forensic Anthropology and Paleobiology focuses on two major areas of Anthropology: Forensic Anthropology and the study of Past Populations.

Bioelectronics & Bioenergy

The Bioelectronics & Bioenergy Research Lab works at the interface of materials science, electronics, and biology. We design, fabricate and characterize devices and systems that record, modulate and harvest cell-cell communication.

Aquatic Ecology and Ecotoxicology

The Aquatic Ecology and Ecotoxicology Group focuses on studying the processes and functioning of freshwater and transition ecosystems in different climatic regions. Above all, the research aims to evaluate the effects of natural and anthropogenic stress agents.
